Week 10 of 365 Project

I have a great sense of achievement this week.

I have passed on my love of all things photo app and editing related to a friend. The fool *mwhahahha*. She had an iphone and took pictures but when I showed her what you could do with those pictures using pixlr-o-matic she may have let out a little squeal! Pixlr-o-matic is my new app of choice (for this week anyway).

Also picmonkey.com has launched which is the closest replacement to Picnik yet. They are promising that collages are coming along with more stickers but it is just too easy to use and has a remarkable sense of familiarity about it.

Can I just say that I am loving this project and I can easily see it continuing for years to come.

There are more addicts out there, mostly congregating at the alter of The Boy And Me. Go see.

From Sweater To Infinity Scarf

I cried. No, actually I sobbed.
My beloved wool tunic sweater accidentally slipped into the washing machine when I wasn't looking and fell out somewhat smaller than when it had gone in.
I got it in the January sales. It is was new!

After I had pulled myself together, researched 'unfelting my shrunken sweater' on google and come up with "Oh dear", I took heart in a couple of pins I had popped onto my #pinaddicts board thinking that they would make a good project one day.

Suddenly I find myself with the raw material, i.e. my shrunken sweater.

I laid it out flat and attacked it with scissors to get 4 rectangles, two from the front and two from the back.

I am just going to pause for a second here to remark on how shrunken wool does not unravel or fray. Amazing! Apparently if you boil the stuff and then tumble dry it for good measure it can become very stiff and you can make allsorts from it. I wanted my shrunken sweater to remain soft, which it has, albeit a smaller soft than it was in its original form.

Taking 2 pieces, I oversewed the short edges together in a contrasting cotton, basically butted the edges together and zigzagged on the machine.

The wool tends to stretch a bit at the edges but that wouldn't particularly matter for the finished article I had in mind.

I joined all 4 pieces together along their short edges in a contiuous loop.

Taking inspiration from the felt pouch I'd pinned I started to free machine embroider a few wavy lines here and there.

Tada! One infinity scarf which I can wrap it two or three times around my neck.

At least my washing accident had a happy ending.

If you have any shrunken sweaters I really recommend this project. Really easy. Or go buy a wool sweater from a charity shop and put it on a hot wash!

The idea to pin and make came from a group of crafty ladies who collectively are known as #Pinaddicts

The Gallery - Light

I have so many photographs of sunsets and one or two of sunrises (on those rare occasions when I am up of my own volition not having to see to the needs of a small person) and they are pretty, the colours, the LIGHT! Wow, the light. I surprise myself that I have actually managed to capture the beauty of the sky with its array of yellows, oranges pinks and reds.

But it is actually a picture I took of Misty Moo a week or two ago that I want to share.

Sunlight on dogs ears

I love her fur. She is short-haired (moults like mad contrary to what I had previously believed about short haired dogs) and gorgeously ginger. Technically she is tan but ginger suits her better. Her fur is so soft and if you smell the top of her head, right there, between her ears, she smells of digestive biscuits. Yes, I know it is mad. You expected it to be ginger biscuits, didn't you?

This photo, I think shows off her fur to perfection with the sunlight catching the top of her head and reflecting off her coat. She was sunning herself in the garden when I sneaked up behind her to take this.

Then, of course, I had to nuzzle the top of her head.

Spring Snap Slappers

It's March so that qualifies as Spring doesn't it? Okay, it snowed on Sunday and I am making a scarf but it is still Spring.

The garden is going to take a lot of convincing to magic something, anything, springlike so we thought we would bring spring inside and have our own little bit of green on the windowsill.

I'm bigging this up but I am of course, referring to Mr Grasshead.

Mr Grasshead

Except there is no sign of any grass yet. The label says water daily and within 2 days you will see the first shoots. Designed for kids, even 2 days is pushing their patience and imagine how disappointed they are that 4 days later there is still no grass. Not one blade of greenery is showing.

Taking matters into my own hands I have helped nature along a bit to cheer up the brood and keep their interest going a bit longer before I cheat and buy a few square inches of astro turf and staple it to his head.

365 Project Week 9

A summary of my week:

Gardening
Fashion failures
Painting
Park
Apples
Prizes
and Changing room marathons in the form of trying to purchase a pair of jeans which should be simple but involves at least an hour of contortion-ism in small cubicles surrounded by various shades of indigo while your face turns puce. Yep, a good day.

Have a great week everyone and enjoy your photography. I know I am :)
