How to eat a Ferrero Rocher

http://picasion.com/i/1UigG/

Picasion

I absolutely love Ferrero Rocher so when a friend of mine gave me a box for my birthday I could not have been happier. I must have previously bored her with my love of retro confectionery so it was in no way a naff present. It was perfect.

We then got talking about how you eat yours and I was amazed to discover that not everyone knows how to eat a Ferrero Rocher. I mean, some people don't even know that you nibble the chocolate off a Kit Kat first, or eat the caramel off the top of a Twix before eating the biscuit! Astonishing! However I did learn that you should always peel the chocolate off the top of a Tunnocks teacake to reveal the perfect marshmallow dome of sweetness, thus proving you are never too old to learn something new.

That said, I feel it is absolutely necessary to instruct the nation the on the correct way to eat a Ferrero Rocher before any more chocolates come to a wasteful, eaten in one, end.
  1. Ensure Ferrero Rocher is at room temperature.
  2. Carefully remove foil wrapper and smooth out to form a perfect silver square*
  3. Nibble outer chocolate and hazelnut casing taking care not to damage the wafer shell beneath.**
  4. Separate two halves of wafer shell by gently opening at join. **
  5. Lick out praline from one half of shell (preferably the half that does not contain the hazelnut).
  6. Eat that half shell allowing wafer to dissolve on the tongue.
  7. Lick out second half of shell reserving hazelnut to crunch on last.
  8. Repeat stage 6 with second half of wafer.
  9. Lick fingers.
Notes:
* In case of a ripped foil wrapper, reserve a foil wrapper from a previous chocolate to substitute.
** If at any point the wafer shell breaks, consume remaining Ferrero Rocher whole and start again.

Just in case I missed the memo on how to eat a Jaffa Cake, please feel free to educate me how you eat your confectionery.

Seven Cures for a Confectionery Overdose

School holidays and confectionery overdose.
There is only one possible solution - throw them outside (suitably wrapped up) and let them burn off the sugar.

Cadbury Creme Egg Bonanza

OK, I should be on diet but who could resist?

In Waitrose today a single creme egg cost 55p.

In Waitrose today a 3 pack of creme eggs cost £1.55. No great saving but convenient and stops them rolling around in your handbag.

In Waitrose today a 6 pack of creme eggs cost £1.52. *pauses to do the mental arithmetic* Yes, folks, 6 creme eggs are cheaper than 3. Now I'm no economist but surely someone in Waitrose will eventually spot the mistake. Funnily enough the stock of 6 packs seems to be more depleted than the stock of 3 packs.

Buy 16 boxes, my brain said. Buy none, my waistline said.
I bought one box. You see I am weak when it comes to anything chocolate related.

But there is more.

After tea, we open the box and.......

HA!

I love it when I win x

Cosy Club Opens in Stamford

Cosy Club Stamford

I love the concept of the Cosy Club, a small chain of restaurants that describe themselves as a "gentleman's club meets village hall meets cricket pavilion". So I was somewhat surprised to find that The Big One's class at school had been invited to a baking session at The Cosy Club as one of their opening events in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

In fact I am slightly narked that The Big One had been before I had the opportunity to! Says something about my social life doesn't it. *skulks off back to the kitchen*

Anyway, after minor sulking, I thought what a brilliant marketing event to have arranged. Get the kids in, give them a great afternoon, get the parents talking about The Cosy Club and get them to come too. I understand that the local press were invited to capture the event and I look forward to seeing the kids in their chefs hats and aprons on the front page (or possibly slightly further back in the paper).

Not wanting to be outdone, I popped in today to find a really warm, comfortable atmosphere in amongst the chesterfield sofas and quirky table lamps. The builders and designers had certainly gone to town converting the old delivery office of Stamford's Post Office There was a distinct hint of retro British in the interior design with dashes of Cath Kidston. The locals were getting stuck in to their lunches and the morning coffee crowd were still gossiping so I doubt whether it will be very long before I am amongst the diners or drinkers. The menu looks very tempting with everything from brunch to tapas to a broad selection of main dishes, and a dedicated children's menu to keep the smalls happy.

In the meantime we thoroughly enjoyed the Cosy Club Confectionery Cookie baked and brought home by the Big One. The sugar rush only lasted an hour! And he will be donning his complimentary chefs hat and apron next time any baking is to be done!

There and back again, again.

Today I am mostly feeling like a yoyo.

When my day is done and I can finally crawl into bed I will have been in and out of my front door 12 times. This shouldn't be a problem or an annoyance really but today I have no energy, I have 6 steps up to my front door and I live on a hill. So bah!

Trip 1: School and nursery drop off. Distance: 1 mile
Trip 2: Walk the dog. Distance: 2 miles
Trip 3: Taking the Wee One to Tumble Tots. Distance: 1 mile
Trip 4: Nursery pick up. Distance: 1 mile
Trip 5: School run. Distance: 1 mile
Trip 6: Charity night. Distance: 2 miles

So you see none of these trips is very far or very taxing. It is just the fact that I have to go up and down the same hill 12 times and I can now tell you the colour of every front door, how many weeds are growing in each garden and how many cracks there are in the pavement between here and the end of the road (not allowed to tread on any because of the bears).

Instant pick me up needed please. Don't suggest chocolate. 1) I am putting on weight so MUST NOT eat it and 2) I haven't got any in the house (major oversight).

Oh and I might buy a pedometer to distract me from my plodding.

The Gallery - 3 Word Wednesday

Inspired by Simon Mayo, Tara over at Sticky Fingers set us an interesting Gallery challenge this week which had me deliberating over a multitude of possibilities. I had just about forced myself to come up with a short list when I felt the need to loosen my belt, face up to my greed and make a pledge. My "3 word wednesday" was lying there, next to me, empty, shaming me into submission:

Diet starts tomorrow *blushes*
